Behind the Scenes: The September 2024 Lookbook

For those of you who have been reading Sam I Am Journal for some time, you know that one of my favorite subject matters is styling. But you might not know that my birthday was last week, the glorious day of September 3rd. Around the time it’s my birthday, I’m constantly feeling slightly sentimental about the previous year and inquisitive about what the year holds. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to achieve with Sam I Am Journal this birthday. Brainstorming new article ideas is where I began. Still, the more I thought about the writing piece of Sam I Am, the more I realized that writing itself wasn’t enough to emphasize my favorite subject matter that I mentioned before: styling. 

I wanted to explore this category of interest, as styling is where I can express myself most creatively. How could I create a catalog element for the Sam I Am Journal that showcased my outfits, such as what I wore on a particular day, rather than suggesting outfits for my readers? That’s when it hit me: the idea of creating a new feature on the website, the lookbook section. 

The Sam I Am Journal lookbook section is a new website feature where I will curate a set of outfits under one common theme. This lookbook’s theme is September 2024: Transitory looks for early fall and late summer. It can be challenging to know exactly what to wear this month. The temperature outside is fluctuous enough that a pair of shorts and jeans may be worn on the same day. These six outfits are looks I will be wearing this month, and I hope to lend some inspiration to you on what to wear. 

In the coming months, I will release new lookbook collections like this one, each aimed at a different theme. Until then, enjoy the first Sam I Am Journal Lookbook, the September 2024 edition. 

Outfit 1 - Fun & Floral 

This Free People dress is a fantastic option for moderate temperatures and is perfect for September. It’s simple and can be paired with various footwear: sandals, sneakers, and boots, which can all be worn to complete this outfit.

Outfit 2 - Fun & Fuschia

One of my favorite colors to come out of this summer and will continue to wear into the fall is the color fuschia. I paired a fuschia top with a pair of basic blue jeans for this outfit. Depending on the accessories you add, this look can be worn for almost any occasion and dressed up or down. 

Outfit 3 - A Pop of Pink

My staple item for cooling temperatures is the cardigan. This light pink cardigan from Edikted is one of my favorite cardigans, as it is the perfect pop of pink. To emphasize the beautiful baby pink color, I paired the cardigan with a black top and skirt, but its versatility lets it be paired with almost anything. 

Outfit 4 - Gingham Girl

Gingham is easily my favorite print for the fall and summer months. This gingham dress from Reformation is the epitome of summer by the water. To adapt to a cooler temperature, it can be paired with a cardigan like this white one from Brandy Melville. 

Outfit 5 - American Fall

Nothing is more American than a piece of denim paired with red. This red sweater from Free People is the perfect layer for September and is complemented by any shade of blue denim.

Outfit 6 - Blue Hues

While it’s not too cold to rock a mini dress, be sure to take advantage of it! I will wear this mini dress from For Love and Lemons as much as possible this September before it gets too cold outside. 

I hope these outfits give you some idea of what I’ll wear this month and inspire you to look for similar items in your closet.
